The Clark Fork River is named in honor of William Clark of the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Other than the Kootenia River, the Clark Fork river empties all of western Montana's drainages to the Columbia River.
The Clark Fork River has the greatest volume of water of all of Montana's rivers. Northwest Montana is very different from the remainder of Montana, both in climate and in vegetation. The weather in our part of the Clark Fork drainage is considerably milder in both winter and summer compared to eastern Montana. Vegetation in our area is mostly mixed species conifer forests. This varies locally from pine forests to cedar / hemlock forests. Outdoor recreation is abundant here. Greater than 65% of the land is owned as National Forest or State lands offering hiking, creek and alpine lake fishing, and assorted winter activities including numerous areas for skiing and snowmobiling . There are three major reservoirs along the Clark Fork River in our immediate area and numerous creeks and rivers offering all kinds of recreation. This area is a recreational paradise. Although we are rural we are not isolated. Major shopping areas are less than 45 miles away, less than a hours comfortable and scenic drive. We have a medical clinic, first class ambulance service, great schools, lots of local shopping and dining to go along with such an incredible atmosphere.
